Music

Playing music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I studied violin and piano growing up and became seriously invested in these pursuits when I discovered the joy of orchestral playing in my early teens. This led to a period studying violin at the RCS, before I discovered my more natural home as a first study pianist.

En route to completing my BMus (at Edinburgh University) I studied with many inspiring pianists and teachers, including Elisabeth Jacobs (founder of the Scottish Piano Competition), Julia Gavrilova and Fali Pavri. As well as a love of performance, my studies saw me become curious about musicology; exploring the histories, cultures and ideas that are the seeds of  all our music. To gratify this interest I went on to complete an MSt. in musicology at Oxford University.

Since qualifying I have enjoyed a varied teaching career and have especially loved growing a home studio where I can hold small concerts with my students. My Bechstein grand piano and friendly cat make this experience extra-warm and welcoming. Recently I also gained a wealth of experience teaching in East Iceland, where I accompanied singers and instrumentalists and took 1-1 lessons in music schools.

Movement

It was during my University years that I discovered aerial circus as a particularly effective and fun antidote to long hours of practice spent seated at a piano stool. Being upside down was the place where I could let my hair down, play and shake out all that discipline. Soon I was using yoga as a tool to prepare, rest and recover from circus. With age I have moved from the fast-and-furious to other forms of movement practice, with increased awareness of breath, presence and stillness as part of the process. My approach is multi-pronged, and depending on the season, location and opportunities you'll find me dabbling in aerial circus, acrobalance, acrobatics and dance alongside my steadfast Vinyasa Yoga practice.

Past trainings include a 200hr Hatha Yoga Teacher Training with Gerry Kielty, retreats with James Boag and a 40hr Vinyasa Sequencing course with Laura Gilmore. This spring I will complete a 20hr Restorative Yoga teacher training with Julia Clarke, and attend a Fighting Monkey-inspired 'Human Animal' workshop with Stefan Crainic and Josephine Haas.
